The Hawking charter school has a story similar to many others: A team of creative, energetic and dedicated educators set out to create a better 21st century school, one classroom at a time. Soon, word of happy and thriving children, and soaring test scores brought more and more applicants until the school was bursting at the seams of it’s inadequate rental space.
The architects were hired by developer, Turner Impact Capital, to plan and design a new PK-12 school on 9 acres of zoned industrial land and obtain a Conditional Use Permit.
The design proposal includes 5 new buildings with 54 classrooms, 2 administration offices and 2 media centers (to serve upper and lower grades), a shared multi-purpose room, and multiple flexible STEAM/maker spaces. Total building area equals 97,581 s.f. The site accommodates 2 parking areas with student loading zones, hard courts and athletic fields, playgrounds, an entry court for full-school gatherings, landscaped outdoor learning spaces.
Project Status: Unbuilt.
